So you thought pillow pets were just great presents for children?
The blog I’m writing today is very different and one I hope you will find very interesting and exciting.
As you probably know from the press and adverts on the TV pillow pets still remain very popular gifts for kids. They are indeed one of my best sellers. So I wasn’t a bit surprised when an international order came in just before Christmas for four puppy pee wee pillow pets. These are the smaller 11 inch version and great as travel pillows. Of course at the time, I had assumed that the order was going to four very lucky children over in South Africa. Oh – how wrong was I?
In fact these super soft pee wee pillow pets were not for kids, but for one very lucky baby capuchin monkey!!! Once I discovered this, I was keen to find out more, so with emails flying backwards and forwards, along with some photos, I thought I’d share her story with you…
When I first saw the photos, I couldn’t believe how tiny she was, ( and so cute too). Looking at the photos, she seems to have fallen in love with her pillow pets, just like all children do!!!
Her name is Cassia (pronounced as Ka-Sha) and she’s being raised by Dr Hermann Liebenberg, a Psychologist. Dr. Liebenberg has been breeding marmosets and tamarin monkeys for the past 15 years, but this is his first Capuchin and apart from being very expensive they are the most intelligent of the New World Apes. That’s why he’s going to attempt to use her in therapy with trauma patients and in particular rape victims. These monkeys have a very acute sense of feeling human emotions, pain and fear and so Dr. Liebenburg is hoping the project will be very successful.
Cassia has her own facebook page, so if you would like to know more about her then simply like her facebook page. There are lots more photos of her here and some very cute videos for you to watch – she looks a real handful!!!!
We will be following Cassia’s story and progress over the next few months, so please keep an eye out for regular up dates on the what2buy4kids facebook page and also on twitter.
Once she gets bigger, she’ll need the larger 18 inch pillow pets and I can’t wait to see what she’ll make of these……
